ANTHONY EDEN, PM, 1955

In Anthony Eden by Robert Rhodes James which was published in 1986, the author states that Eden, who was the British Prime Minister at the time of Ruth’s execution, makes no reference whatever to the matter in his memoirs. There is also nothing in his papers about the case. Eden accepted that the decision was the responsibility of the Home Secretary Gwilym Lloyd-George, but there are indications that he was troubled about it.
